Rotating Detonation Engine

 Detonation is a phenomenon involving rapid matter/chemical reaction and energy change which are major advantages when the detonation is applied to propulsion engine. An efficient and compact engine system can be designed due to these features. This engine system is called a detonation engine. Compared with conventional engines, the combustion efficiency is expected to increase by 20%. Realization of detonation engine is a dream of detonation researchers. There are mainly two types detonation engine. The pulse detonation engine which obtains thrust by intermittent detonation. And, the rotating detonation engine which can obtain stable thrust by propagating detonation along the circumferential direction inside the double annular combustor. For realization of detonation engine, some issues have to be solved such as propagation condition, speed limitation or high heat load. To solve those issues, we are researching the detailed internal flow and thrust performance using numerical simulation.
